Magic Rug Cleaners is based in the Coachella Valley and cleans area rugs for Palm Desert homes every week. We do not clean rugs in your living room. Your rug is picked up, brought back to our plant, dusted, washed, rinsed and dried under controlled conditions, then returned. That is the only way to clean a fine rug properly – and it is the difference between a rug that lasts a generation and one that quietly wears out.
Why Palm Desert is hard on rugs
Desert living puts a specific kind of stress on wool and silk. Fine sand works its way to the base of the pile and sits there, grinding against the foundation every time someone walks across it – most of the wear on a Palm Desert rug happens from the inside out, invisibly, long before the surface looks dirty. Add low humidity, hard water, intense UV through big windows, and pets tracking in from the patio, and you have a climate that ages rugs faster than almost anywhere else in California.
This is why surface cleaning is not enough. A vacuum lifts what is on top. It does not remove the grit buried in the foundation. Our process starts with mechanical dusting precisely because that embedded sand is the thing actually destroying the rug. What we clean
Hand-knotted Persian and Oriental rugs, wool and silk, antique and modern, flatweaves and kilims, hide rugs, and machine-made area rugs. We also handle specialty rug cleaning services, pet stain and odour treatment, moth damage, and rug repair and restoration – re-weaving, binding, fringe work and reinforcing worn edges.
Pet odours do not come out with a rented machine
Urine passes through the pile into the foundation and, if there is a pad, into that too. Topical cleaners mask the smell for a few days and then it returns, usually worse, because the moisture reactivates it. Removing it means fully submerging and flushing the rug, which cannot be done on your floor. If you have been fighting a smell you cannot find, that is why.
Wool, silk and everything in between
Each rug is cleaned according to what it is made of. Wool rugs are dusted and washed by full immersion. Silk and silk blends are tested first and washed gently by hand, because silk and its dyes are more delicate. Cotton and flat-weave rugs are checked for dye transfer before washing. Antique and vintage pieces are examined for weak areas, earlier repairs and dry rot before any water touches them. You can read the full rug cleaning process step by step.
Repairs we can make while your rug is here
If your rug needs more than cleaning, the work can be done at the same time. We repair unravelling edges and exposed side cords, re-weave and patch damaged areas, replace or re-attach fringe and re-knot.
